Okay, so the other day, I decided to try out this “tarot card one card” thing. I’ve dabbled a bit in tarot before, but I’ve never done just a single-card reading. I woke up, and the first thought in my mind was that I needed some quick guidance for the day.

I grabbed my tarot deck, the one I picked up a while back from a quirky little shop downtown. I gave it a good shuffle, really focusing on what I wanted to know, which was basically, “What do I need to focus on today?” It’s kind of a broad question, but I figured it was a good starting point.
- Shuffling the cards:
- First, I held the deck in my hands and closed my eyes.
- Took a few deep breaths to clear my mind and focus on my question.
- Started shuffling, thinking about what I wanted to gain from the reading.
- Drawing the card:
- After shuffling for a bit, I felt like it was time to stop.
- Cut the deck into three piles with my left hand.
- Then, I restacked them, putting the bottom pile on top.
- Fanned out the cards face down on the table.
- Hovered my hand over the cards and waited until I felt a pull towards one.
- Flipped over the card I was drawn to.
And then, I pulled a card. I can’t remember the exact card I got. But I remember the feeling it gave me. I spent a few minutes just staring at the card, taking in all the details of the artwork.
Next, I grabbed my tarot journal. I jotted down the date, the question I asked, and the card I pulled. Then I wrote down my initial thoughts and feelings about the card. What did the imagery make me think of? How did it relate to my question? I didn’t look up the traditional meaning of the card right away. I wanted to see what it meant to me personally, first.
After I finished writing, I finally checked a tarot guidebook I have. It’s a pretty comprehensive one that explains all the different interpretations of each card. I read through the section on the card I pulled, and it was interesting to see how my initial thoughts aligned with the traditional meanings.
I spent the rest of the day reflecting on the card and its message. It was actually a pretty productive day. I felt like I had a clear focus and direction, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I carried the card in my pocket, pulling it out a couple of times throughout the day to remind myself of its message.
All in all, it was a really positive experience. It got me thinking that maybe I should incorporate one-card readings into my daily routine. It’s such a simple and quick way to get some guidance and set the tone for the day. I might even start experimenting with different spreads, but for now, I’m pretty happy with the simplicity of the one-card method. Oh, and there’s this cool app I found that lets you do digital tarot readings. Might give that a try sometime, too.
So, yeah, that’s my story about my first one-card tarot reading. It was a small thing, but it made a big difference in my day.
